NYCsteve - Topsail was nice enough and while having the camper a mile from the beach is a little inconvenient it does keep the beach a little more wild. But nowhere near as wild as the beach at St George. Haven't been to St Joe so how does it compare to St George?"
Very similar in that the adjecent land is sparsly developed. St Joes campgrounds are closer to the beach than St George's,literally a 2 minute walk across the dunes. The St Joes campground is tighter with less spots. Less mesquitoes by far at Joes. What I did find at St Joes was what I think was outside roaches. They were identical to house roaches up north in size and appearance . I had one in the camper which at first I thought came in on some grocerys from Pigglywiggly but after seeing them outside in numbers in the campground figured it came in from outside. They do seem to stay outside, we had no hitchhickers when leaving. Both beaches are awesome, with a slight edge to Georges. But the convience of Joes ,close beach, decent shopping nearby are hard to ignore. Plus the roaches ,or whatever they were are easier to deal with than hordes of mesquitoes.
