Gap in window Gasket???

Please take a look at the attached pictures of the rear window in our 2010 MPG.

Is that gap in the gasket at the bottom normal; maybe for drainage or expansion, or is it something I should be concerned with and fill in with caulking
Thank you,

  • I contacted the manufacturer and they indicated I should either replace the gasket or fill the gap in with caulking.
  • What I did was to remove and replace the gasket placing the gap at the top then fill in the gap with caulk. :)
  • Pretty much normal, won't cause any harm. The gap will probably get larger over time as the plastic/vinyl shrinks due to the sun. It is easy to replace if you want.
  • They always shrink some, but that looks like a lot. Maybe the dealer can give you a short piece to glue into place. Its probably not a good idea to leave it open to the elements. JMO
