Garage door opener as a lift for a camper shell

I have an old garage door opener that I was thinking of using as a lift for a camper shell. I'd attach it to a block and tackle to amplify the pulling force. The problem is I have no idea how much ...

I'd look at something like that... those winches are pretty common and not too expensive. A lot of them are designed to be portable and can just hang off hooks from beams. Basic vehicle battery runs them.
