You don't keep wheel seals from leaking by running them dry! Look at all the OTR trucks with wet bearings. I converted all my truck and trailer axles, in the early 70s, to oil and that was the end of any lube or leaking problems.
I hold my thumb over the hole and fill to the top, about 5 qts. and that gets oil up into the axle tubes. Then I find a steep road bank and drive on the slope, both ways, to get plenty of oil to the hubs. I also run oil on my 5er and I rigged the center plugs so I get more oil in them. Craig
