- jorge1958ExplorerMy Dodge has 3.92 not 3.55. Makes a TON of difference towing.
- Tom_DianeExplorerOwners manual will have a sample vin in it and tell you which code you are looking for to find your rear end ratio. Other wise, yes a dealer can tell you which codes you are looking for.

It worked for me. I never pulled in od(4th). If I remember right it was not recommended to tow in overdrive.
Thanks for all the info. It is a 3.55. I do have the tow pkg. Is that the proper rearend. - dodge_guyExplorer IIThe 3.55 wasn't enough when i had my conv. Van with the 5.9L towing a 6300 lb loaded trailer. The 3.90 was the perfect ratio.

If you have trouble such as gear hunting over mild hills or always seem to be in the wrong gear you probably need 4.10 or 4.56 ratio.

My '99 1500 5.2L had a 3.55 with tow package.
How do you find out what your gear ratio is on rearend. Have a 1999 dodge 1500 5.3. - ShavanoExplorerMoved to Tow Vehicles

Call a dealer and give them you're VIN.
Or Google your vin. I did it for a friend who had a old MH and got more info than I thought was possible.
