gel cap defective

We have a 2013 Komfort, the gel coat on front cap continues to fade.Have tried everything to clean it,but keeps coming back.We have seen three other Komforts with the same problem and also the keystone trailers.Anyone else having the same problem? Seems that Thor and Dutchman are ignoring our requests to fix the problem.

Keystone and a few other manf. have had a problem with bad paint so you might can get it fixed that way.

As far as donn0218 he is right to say take it to a detail shopboat repair. You can purchase some 3m marine buffing compound and a highspeed buffer and do it yourself as well

get a sponge and barkeepers friend and clean and rinse/dry, then apply zep wet look with a microfiber towel and be done with it. 3-4 coats and will look better than new.
I did that and it lasted about 6 months. There is no UV protection with Zep. Now it looks as bad as ever and I have a heck of a mess trying to strip off the Zep so I can have it painted like I should have in the first place. I had my front cap painted and it looks good, should have done the rear at the same time. That is the ONLY way to permanently fix this problem.

  • We had the same problem. Our cap faded quickly and I used various compounds to bring it back until I started to rub through the surface.
I finally just had a RV body shop repaint it with 2 part epoxy paint.
That was two years ago and it looks better than new. The finish is tougher than gel coat (rocks wont chip it as easily) and it hold a shine great.
Mine was $800 for one color (white) but I never have to worry about it again

    I agree
  • Looks good!! That's the way to go and what I would do, but hope I don't need too. I just love how the TT mfgs tell you how great their TT's are, till the day you buy one and have an issue. But we all know that by now so we know what we're getting in to when we write the check.
  • Several of the manufacturers have problems with the front caps fading (seems to have hit the 2013 models hardest), including Keystone and Arctic Fox amongst others. It is especially bad for grey caps and you will notice most have gone to either painted (rather than just the gelcoat) or white. It is not as noticeable with white. It is high maintenance for sure, unless you get it painted.
  • I have learned Keystone has bought out Dutchman. Sent them a letter about defective gel cap. Got a call today from customer service said they are aware of the problem and will pay up to $1,500 for repaint.
