Getting Expensive

So we ordered our new Rockwood 31' (34' total) TT and I'm taking the advise from members of this forum to not tow it with a Ford Expedition. I don't trust the 5-6 different dealers I called that said we would be more than fine to tow it with this vehicle. By the way, it amazes me that they would say that an expedition can tow a 7000lb dry weight trailer, even if they know I'm not buying from them. Is it that they truly don't know, when they should because they're the experts?

Anyway, I found a beautiful Excursion with only 54,000 miles on it and we're going to pick it up this Saturday. We're trading in our 03 EB Expedition which I will miss very much. The Excursion is a 6.8L V10, and with that power, I will fill much more comfortable towing my family of 5, two dogs and all our gear 10 hrs a way to our camping destination.

    I just traded my Expedition for a better TV as well. My TT is 31'6" and about 5,000 dry (7000 lbs is as heavy as I'll load it), and I felt like the Expy was maxed out and struggling all the way. I didn't feel unsafe, but it felt like I was seriously overtasking the vehicle. Now with my E350 it feels SO much better towing. I was looking at Excursions when I found this, and I like them a lot as well. I believe you'll love the difference in towing and the extra peace of mind.

    But…

    It’s lased with some of the most inaccurate, even at times unsafe information in the world or a lot of supposition and assumption thrown in…

    All of it worth what you paid for it…

    You need to become an expert at sifting through all that information here and elsewhere on the internet eliminating most of it and verifying what’s left for accuracy…

    Never assume that because something or some idea is popular here that it automatically becomes the best advice or best recommendation… most of it is given with good intentions but good intentions are seldom enough…

    Good choice. I really don't feel the Expedition can handle (most) TTs over 30'.

    I tow with an 03 EB Expy and I would make that trade today if it was available to me. The only Excursions I have found have been over 175K V10's. I have towed with a friends Excursion for a direct comparison and the Excursion is in a different atmosphere.
    Got my vote for the right move- especially with a TT as long as yours.

    Having towed with an Expedition for years, I was one of the guys who recommended against towing a 7K dry - 34 foot dry trailer with one, especially since you have the extra weight of a family and all the gear that goes with it.

    You are getting a V10 Excursion....BIG difference. Good choice and enjoy your new adventure.
