For a 35 foot toy hauler...go with a one ton truck..It all about payload and toy haulers can have a lot of tongue weight.
The trailer will already have brakes. You will need a brake controller for your truck if it doesn't already have an integrated brake controller which many late model trucks have.
Make sure you get a truck with the towing package which will have an aux. tranny cooler, hitch wiring and probably upgraded suspension.
