1 ton and 3/4 ton will drive basically the same (turning radius, size, etc) but the 1 ton (a misnomer since they carry more than 1 ton these days) can CARRY a larger weight of cargo, which is what you need for a heavy hitch weight 5er.
Fun fact: Many single axle semi tractors are more maneuverable than a crew cab, long box, 3/4 ton pickups, because their front wheels will turn sharper and they often have a shorter wheelbase (144in vs 153).
