I'll start paying attention when gas/diesel is under 3 bucks a gallon in Oz and you can get a quad cab truck with a long bed.. that is without having to import a US truck at ridiculous prices. ;)
$80K for a little turbo diesel Toyota landcruser ... no thanks.
Australia is a great country with a lot going for it, but RVing just aint' the same.
I am not talking about Australia, but Global Products put out by mainly Asian manufacturers You seem to pop up every time to talk down Australia, seem to have had a very bad relationship with someone from Australia
Robert, many Americans with little or no experience overseas seem to believe that the sun rises and sets on everything "Made in America". Having spent a good deal of my working life overseas and a good deal of that in Asia I know differently and get what you are saying.
The "Global" trucks including the Colorado were NOT designed in the US. It was an international design team that made a truck with componentry that would be common to all sales markets with minor differences.
The different capacity ratings of the trucks by country have more to do with local habits, regulations, markets and legal issues, NOT capability, which is pretty much the same for all the trucks no matter where they will be sold.
Most Americans cannot even imagine the kinds of loads these mid size trucks will haul in countries like Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, Burma and parts of China and Tibet. Nor can they imagine the kinds of roads that will be traversed (some admittedly very good but some truly horrible)
For some posters they continue with the same jingoistic provincial approach to anything that challenges their beliefs. They cannot fathom that such things as this midsize can do what it is claimed.
Americans love BIG STUFF. Our houses are huge, our furniture is huge our cars and trucks are huge. We have a very big open country, our refrigerators are huge...I've never seen anything to compare to them anywhere in the world, we just love Big stuff and we have an intrinsic belief that Bigger is better in many cases. Yes some of that is changing I agree but it is ingrained in many many Americans.
Traveling and living overseas is one of the most valuable things Americans could do. It gives you a much more "Global" perspective on most things, and while America is a great country which does many things right, it is not the end all and be all of all things.
Keep sharing these posts as they are always interesting. And dont let the Provincial Jingoists get you down...
