Agree they are small (too small for me) and have less HP and smaller engines than we are used to (but are really frugal w/r to fuel consumption), but they have exceptional PAYLOAD. Despite what ShinerBock says, everything I've read suggests these things can easily handle their payload and more. Anybody who has been to Mexico or in the 3rd world (or are Mexico and Brazil still a 3rd world countries?) can attest to the capabilities of these trucks.
What's pathetic to me is the RAM EcoDiesel, not only does it have low HP but it has low Payload to boot. Truly a grocery getter, and exactly what RAM wanted, because the vast majority of American truck are just big grocery-getters or commuters. The market in NA (less Mexico) is different than the rest of the world, that's for sure.
Like you I cannot understand the RAM Diesel, the payload is pretty ordinary to say the least. I would think the diesel would give a nice midrange torque curve for towing, but comes up very short in the payload stakes
