My 5500 is 10,000 lbs empty and has 325 hp. It can carry 9000 lbs, tow 20,000 lbs or do a combination of both. At 20,000 lbs GCW, it has no problem maintaining 60 mph over I-90's Snoqualmie Pass. I have no doubt it will handle the upcoming trip over a pass just as steep and 1000' higher while towing an additional 1000 lbs. For me, this typical use and the global cut away vans or cab over engine trucks pictured would to keep pace with traffic.
Although I have only spent one month in Australia between Adeliade and Sydney, over the years I have driven most of Europe between Paris, Stockholm, Prague and Dubrovnik. Even with all the crazy government controls in Europe, I saw plenty of overloaded and underpowered vehicles hauling and towing that would not be allowed in the U.S. or Canada. They have much more speed reductions for these burdened vehicles because they just wouldn't be safe beyond their 80 or 100 kph restrictions. I know Australia doesn't have as many speed restrictions as Europe but it also doesn't have the elevation changes or population density that would cause havoc for the vehicle or the people around it.
Same here when travelling the U.S. i e Triple Towing . Examples of what you saw?
