Global Pickup Trucks Bragging Rights

Well it looks like we caught the "US Disease" Mitsubishi with a brand new model and engine, say Their Pickup can tow 3.9 Tonnes(8,680lb) to put that into perspective, a Silverado HD Diesel is rated at 9,900lb here. It does not believe the numbers put out by Ford and GM
Mitsubishi against the rest
Now spot the difference between these two models that are to be released
Global Hilux

Ford Global Ranger

Liked the article. Emphasizing payload over towing capacity.

That is why they are called "1 Tonne" Ute, Min payload 2,200lb

Another mid size truck. Looks like a popular segment in Australia.

I think they are built with heavier components over there. I may be wrong though.

    Thanks!

Yes a lot heavier, that is why the Mitsubishi with a small 2.4 Diesel, has more payload, than many RAM Pickup Trucks whilst towing 6,800lb

Personally, if they built a mid-size here in the US with over 300 turbocharged horses under the hood (diesel or gas) that had a payload of roughly 2500 to 3000 lbs and tow capacity of 12,000 lbs, and seating for 5 and a 6.5' pickup bed, I'd buy it. I really prefer a smaller vehicle over the larger ones. But then I also accept that I'm probably a minority in this regard since many go with the bigger is better approach.

ditto. But a max 2500# payload would be all I need.

The Nissan Titan XD may be closest to that here in NA. The only other option is the F150 HD with the EcoB. But I believe the Nissan crew cab with 6.5' bed is 5-6" shorter than Ford's? Small diff, true. And the Nissan is still pretty big.

One of the reasons I like Extended/Super cabs. My current 145" wheelbase is just about right. And Ford's Superduty SCab is even shorter (~141" IIRC). The 3.5L EcoB in that, with an Al body would be nice ...

If Ozlanders honestly believe that a midsize Mitsubishi can tow a load just as good with just as similar towing performance as a 3/4 ton HD diesel then they are smoking some pretty good stuff.

  • The Global Ranger is awesome!!! Wish we could have them in the US. But if they were available the F150 sales would fall on it's face and the Ranger would not be counted as an F series for sales bragging rights. Rename it the F100 and bring it!~!~!
