Yes, the Eaton G80 locker has clutches. It is an open diff under
a preset RPM. Preset used to be too high and they grenaded when the
centrifugal switch flipped...newer versions has it set at 200 RPM now
GM's G80 is offered on half ton, 3/4 ton, etc...they are just sized
for the GAWR of that vehicle

This isn't a bash any badge thing, just educational on 'this' locker
vs the LS's shown.
I like the Eaton for most pavement usage, except for boy racer stuff.
Then it's very weak and will blow up easily if too much throttle is
there when it tosses the switch.
Here are some other videos. The last two shows the how it works guts
of the G80. First one more of what the above shows, but a bit more
info. All marketing/sales based, but educational never the less.

I'd love to have a Gleason (TruTrac), but they are very expensive
and I'm not ready to off road that seriously, yet if ever with this
Sub. Then I'd rather have an electric or air locker for serious
off roading and on both front and rear.
Also, for you folks with LS, they will do the job and just needs a bit
of driver input. Set the parking brake or the regular brakes a bit to
load up the freewheeling wheel, which is required of most any LS to
transfer enough torque to the 'stuck' wheel. Then it will load up
the clutches and both will grab.
Les, that fish tailing is in the transitional area where the
centrifugal switch is being tossed in. Left, right...right, left
getting power, then the other side. Lay off the throttle till it
catches, then a start to throttle it up. Notice that the G80 will
'chirp' the good side when that switch is made and is what causes
you to fishtail. This is also when it blows up if too much throttle
is being applied at that moment. That truck tried to go a bit sideways
even on dry pavement.
I'd guess Eaton's test track, or could be any OEMs, as they all test
that kind of stuff. What fun it would be to work in that group !
This is really badge neutral, as sub any badge with LS, Eaton, etc and
they all will do the same. Just so happens that Eaton is OEM equipment
on GMs is all.
