I have the GM service manuals (2-volume set) for this exact model. The G80 is listed as follows:
Page 0A-24:
"G80 Axle, Rear: Limited Slip Differential"
Pages 0C-8 & 3E-13
"To distinguish between a standard rear axle and a limited slip rear axle, check for Positraction (G80) on the Service Parts Identification label"
And that's all in Volumes I & II.
So, no help from the service manuals. Evidently that info in the service manual has been boiler plated from years and models gone by.
Edit: And here is the info for the Owner's Manual for this exact model, in the section "Recommended Fluids and Lubricants":
"Differential Front and Rear Axle - Axle Lubricant (GM Part No. 1052271) or SAE 80W-90 GL-5 Gear Lubricant"
So much for the owner's manual.
On page 2-20 is found "Locking Rear Axle (If Equipped)" which talks about this feature giving extra traction, but nothing about specifying how it works or any special fluids.
No wonder the confusion.
