- BenKExplorerI'm loyal...but not blindly to anything...
It is not the OEMs but with the reporting mag's and the biggie for me, the folks
who try to beat up others because their's has higher sales numbers. That is so
out of context, but too many don't get that point
Was a Ford guy during my high school years...became a Dodge guy when dad bought
a Custom 880...then a GM guy when I bought my own trucks.
Before a GM truck guy, was a Toyota guy with my FJ40.
The only badge truck I wasn't a fan of was the old Dodge's...even though got
beat twice with my K5. Butt to Butt and lost both. Both had a steak dinner out
of my ice chest. One was up in the wilderness area of the Idaho
Panhandle by an old guy (I was in my 20's) and his beat up green
Powerwagon. Other was by another old guy shortly after that with a
green Powerwagon out in Pismo...guess I should hate green powerwagons... :B
Years later figured out who/why they kinda sorta cheated...they both turned their
draw-bar 'up' so that they were pulling up on my rear end...dumb kid back then...
Now that they are badged RAM, like them too. - LessmoreExplorer II

PS...another laughable thing is that the Blue Oval sales are lumped
into one 'F series', while GM's is separated into several rows...if
you add all of those rows up...the sum usually surpasses or is neck

Guess the Blue Oval can then have Mercury's sales numbers added to up
it some more...
Ben, I know from reading your posts that you are a pretty intelligent fellow so you probably know what I am going to remind you of...:@
Where would you suggest Ford split their sales numbers to instead of "lumping" them all together??? They only have one line.
GM could easily just build all their trucks as either Chev OR GMC then they could lump them all together.
As far as your Mercury comment, that nameplates gone like Olds and Pontiac so nothing to add in. Ford's doing not bad with just the one "brand"
PS...
Up till 1968 Ford Motor Company had Mercury branded trucks in Canada.
I remember helping switch grill, tailgate, and side nameplates on a burgundy Mercury truck in the showroom to Ford brand as they made a last minute decision to kill the Mercury truck name.
The guy who bought it was watching and kinda pi$$ed that he couldn't get the Merc..
They DID NOT add the numbers together for sales reporting, was 2 columns just like the current GM so maybe that's why they did it?:B
Let they say F-Series was the best selling "nameplate/brand" (not manufacturer) of trucks.
I generally find myself in agreement with BenK. Some of the most knowledgeable, well thought out and well analyzed posts come from him.
Also agree with you V10...mostly.:D
BTW, my family's business back in 1968 had one, of the last Mercury pickups. We got it in March 1968 from a Merc dealer. It was a '68 M 250 with a 3 on the tree and a 300 I 6 cylinder. It was used as a work truck. Excellent truck.
Mercury trucks were last built, I think in March, 1968.
I do agree that the Ford vs Chev/GMC sales number have been an apples to oranges comparison....not a real accurate picture of the actual sales. Ford has used this simply as marketing tool...I would say an effective marketing tool for many years now.
Frankly, I don't know why anyone is brand loyal to any brand, of any product.
There's no real relationship going on between Ford or GM or Dodge or any firm and their customers...either en masse or individually.
A customer maybe a dyed in the wool avid fan of Ford, GM or Chrysler...but make no mistake...even if you have bought only Ford...only GM...only Mopar for the past 40 years, wear your brand loyal Ford...GM..Mopar pajamas to bed....as far as any firm is concerned...you're just a number, nothing else.
Sure they want you to continue buying their product...but that's as far as it goes. No more, no less. You're a customer....no matter even if you named your first born... .'Ford', wear only Chevy brand hats...or Hemi T shirts.
Kind of like being a fan of a football or hockey team. You're the source of big bucks for the team owner and the players. It's all about marketing and prying $$ from the fan or customer.
I'm not saying there is anything wrong with being a fan or loyal customer. I'm one on both counts.:D I just try not to delude myself...too much...that my relationship with the company/team in question...is nothing more than being part of the marketing plan...the part that pays the money.

- BenKExplorerI don't care what anyone buys...except for family/friends for which I'll end
up taking care of or advising them thereof...
I do care that enough of 'my' model sells so that I'll have a parts supply for
decades and at the prices that goes with volume
Personal preference:
The new trucks are ridiculously expensive and too tall for no good reason other
than to appease the fashion statement crowd
The highly desired OEM 20's were laughable a decade ago as low rider stuff. Is
dangle balls around the corner?
I like my trucks to look like trucks, IMHO, but the younger crowd drives the
above fashion statement stuff... :(

Again, really don't care what others drive...just that what I own has
enough sales to keep my parts availability and pricing going - dshelleyExplorerWe can all be certain that those trucks are the profit makers and will be changed now and then. Those changes most often create a better vehicle, but we customers may or may not choose to purchase those changes. It would be foolish to asume a convincing argument can be effectively made by anyone that a particular brand is consistently better than the others. Those monthly sales numbers are entertaining to look at but as someone said, they mean very little when measured by any one given month. Even though we fans of a brand like to point at them when they favor our particular choice.
- hone_eagleExplorerJust turned 800,000 on the old 2005 truck :W
- C-BearsExplorerIt about killed me to buy my new truck in 2012. I was a "happy camper" when I paid it off a year later. I swear I was in sticker shock for the whole year, probably still am.
Don't really care who does what with whatever brand, I am not buying another expensive diesel. I hope to be one of those guys who post on here someday "just turned over 200,000 miles on the old truck". - I agree that the F sales may be down because of the retooling for all aluminum... BUT I Like that fact that folks are not waiting.. looks like they are buying the twins and Dodge.. AS LONG AS THEY ARE BUYING SOMETHING... that's all I care about.. You really cannot go wrong with any of the trucks on the market now.. Its all personal preference...
- alboyExplorerAll really nice trucks.I had my 06Ram 3500 for 8 yrs, sold it with 86000 miles, still in mint condition, best truck i have owned period.Went with a 2015 GMC DMAX 3500 SLT after test driving them all, really impressed with the quietness, handling, ride, and spaciousness, hope it serves us as well.
