GM trucks close gap on ford, almost double ram !!

Glad to see those numbers for Silverado and sierra. Starting to see a lot on the roads so makes sense to me. Goodcarbadcar.net shows all numbers. GM still top seller despite bad press over past month.

GM's numbers are high because 21% of their truck sales were fleet sales. Accountants would prefer that sales be retail to make higher profits.

Are you saying that fleet operators do not buy Ford and Ram trucks, only less knowledgeable buyers?

Fleet vehicle operators decide what to buy based on the total cost of ownership which is the difference between what it costs to buy the trucks, keep them running, and the amount they get when they sell the trucks. Strangely enough they could care less how pretty they look or how many cup holders they have.
  • It's been a few years and a redesign or two since I shopped, but when i bought by 2006 silvy
the design polish and fit/finish of GM seemed much better than Ford, as was reflected in higher prices..... even though Ford's rated capacities are higher generally.
I always figured the reason you saw more fords on the road than GM generally, had to do with sales price.

My point is this.... I'd wonder what these sales numbers look like when compared with sales price.
  • Why is it the Titan loses 20% every month? Pretty soon they won't be able to chop the 1 truck into 5 pieces and it will just be a 100% loss as it rides off into the sunset :)

Honestly, the last 1/2 ton I owned was a Titan and I thought it was a really nice truck (2005 model). If I were looking at another 1/2 ton I'd at least go test drive one. I bet you can pick up a used one peanuts.

Interesting to see the Ram trucks gaining on the other two. I know I see A LOT of newer Rams on the road where I live. Also, a lot of Chevy/GMC. Not a lot of Fords in my totally statistically irrelevant study :)

Also, I still a huge number of new Tundras rolling around. I've had my 6.4 Hemi Ram for over two months now and have yet to see another one. Just a lot of Cummins and older 5.7 Hemis.

  • I am not a huge fan of the redesigned 1/2 tons by GM but I have seen two, 2015 Chevy 1 ton dually's in town and they are one tough looking truck.

With Chevy at 197,000 and RAM at 170,000, and Chevy falling 1% and RAM gaining 21% YTD, it's only a matter of time before Chevy falls to #3 in YTD sales.
  • Actually if you check the numbers you will find that GM (Chevy/GMC) have a combined year to date sales gain of 1.68%
Ford has a year to date gain of 1.9%.
Ram has a year to date gain of 21.4%.

    Year to date
    Ford - 305,265
    GM twins - 274,945
    Ram - 170,711

    May sales
    Ford - 68,520
    GM twins - 64,074
    Ram - 37,131

Ford has still outgained the GM twins slightly for the year. Chevy has a net loss of sales for the year to date and is only boosted by the GMC. Ram is soaring and gaining rapidly on both.

For the month of May the GM numbers look good. But not yet the "top seller".
  • Doesn't matter to me. I drove them all and in my opinion (the only one that counts) Ram has the best fit and finish and is the nicest inside and out. Plus the fact that the Chevy's are just horribly ugly in my opinion.
