GVW is related to brakes, frame, and carrying capacity. To ignore it completely is foolish.
My 2011 Ram 3500 Dually had a 12,200 GVW.
My new 2016 Ram 3500 Dually has a 14K GVW.
Huge changes in the frame, suspension and axles between the two.
Also the brakes on the new truck are way way way better.
