That pickup didn't owe you anything.

There's a big difference in the complexity of that trans vs. one in a new truck. The new transmissions are nice but they will certainly cost some big $ in repairs someday. The manuals have much less complexity. - ksssExplorer

"Automatics are boring and soulless but I wouldn't mind if they were durable. They just aren't."
Current Automatics in all HD pickups ARE durable, not sure of your point.
How many AISIN auto FAILURES can you name?
Some just hold on to nostalgia and cannot swallow their pride and admit the technology has surpassed their skill. I love driving manuals and will probably always have one in the fleet. But I also know from a pure performance standpoint I probably won’t beat or at least not consistently beat what the new autos can do.
No auto will ever have the durability of a manual. I have one that is over 30 years old and it works like new. No automatic will ever compete with that.
If I liked automatic transmissions, I'd have one. I have nothing against them other than the durability issues. I just don't like them and I doubt I could ever change that. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

So bottom line it's a "GM Made" transmission, NOT made by Allison. Allison is granting GM to use their name!!!
Allison was a gm subsidiary until just a few years ago. It's been a gimmick since day one. Real Allison transmissions don't have "park."
It has worked pretty well for a "Gimmick". - wnjjExplorer II

Yep, and my buddy has had to replace more than one clutch in his 2000 Cummins 6-speed. Granted, not expensive but still not “durable”. Yes, he knows how to drive one properly. - larry_barnhartExplorerOur 05 Allison is the same feeling as new. No issues in 102000 miles and I am happy as heck to have it.
