Current Automatics in all HD pickups ARE durable, not sure of your point.
How many AISIN auto FAILURES can you name? - twodownzeroExplorer

Every time I test drove a manual tranny RAM they we dead slow going thru the gears. I borrowed a friends 3rd gen a couple years ago and it was the same experience. It is not like I do not know how to drive a stick. I have had a lot of them and drove a class 8 tractor with a 13 speed Road Ranger, smaller fuel trucks with 4 and 5 speeds and 2 speed rear ends. Military Corn Binder CC, Travel All, 2.5T, Duce and a half, and Dodge Panel. 41 Plymouth, Austin A40, 54 Plymouth, 60 El Camino, 67 SS 350 Camaro, Flat fender Jeep, many Honda cars, 74 K10 Chevy and 63 Chevy Sub with four on the floor.
So I do not think it was me that made the RAM manual a slug.
Hmmmmm, I have absolutely no problem keeping up with traffic off the lights driving in the city with my truck.........and I'm certainly not driving it hard to do so. :W
The reality of it today is most people have no idea on how to drive a manual transmission, especially with a load attached. Plus it makes it difficult to drink coffee, text, and adjust the radio. Personally, I love the manual transmission; they have always been second nature to me and I love the absolute control they provide.
For me it's just a durability thing. I've had my truck for 14 years and changed the transmission fluid once or twice. Automatics are boring and soulless but I wouldn't mind if they were durable. They just aren't. - twodownzeroExplorer

So bottom line it's a "GM Made" transmission, NOT made by Allison. Allison is granting GM to use their name!!!
Allison was a gm subsidiary until just a few years ago. It's been a gimmick since day one. Real Allison transmissions don't have "park." - blofgrenExplorer

There's no way I would consider a manual these days. We had one in one of our work trucks and no one ever wanted to drive it
Other than the fun factor. The manual transmission is outmatched in virtually every scenario. And there are not enough truck buyers purchasing manuals because they are more fun than the automatic. - There's no way I would consider a manual these days. Too bad they won't just give us a 7, 8, or 9 speed manual instead.
That's a lot of development work for you and the other 12 customers. ;)
The transmissions already exist. It is just a matter of being willing to install it and market it. There's plenty of demand for it, people just don't want derated trucks just to have a manual. A manual that would hold up would sell and did sell in the past.
Unfortunately for those that want it, the market has already told all the manufacturers that the demand just isn't there. I used to far prefer manual transmissions, but automatics have so far outstripped them in efficiency and driveability that I'd not buy a manual. - Cummins12V98Explorer III
