Keep in mind you cannot increase the payload of the TT buy increasing the tire rating, the axles, bearing and brakes have a finite design limit.

Tires are a consumable product, so it is assumed that operating below their rated load will extend their usable life. However, punctures, sidewall cuts and manufacturing errors play no favorites when it comes to tire cost or brand.

NO.
Tire and wheel mfg don't recommend it if your using 65 psi.

Having split trailer wheels on my flat decks in my younger dumber days when I ignored my tire dealer and mounted a 80 psi rated tire on steel wheels with a 60 psi rating...they split around the bead seat flange after airing to 80 psi and loading the trailer.
What happens is after the tires heat at highway speeds the 80 psi in the tire can go to 90 + psi.

Now you can use a 65 at 50 psi on a 50 psi rated wheel but you lost the benefit oif the D tire. The D tire needs to match the wheels width properly for best long term performance.
The benefit of a D tire comes only at those higher pressures.

Maybe I missed it but are you using 14" or 15" tire diameter ??

I use the made in USA Goodyear Wrangler HT tires. LT 215/75-15
They are for wheels 5.5" to 7" wide, with 6" being ideal.

MAXXIS makes a good ST205R15-D (I run these)

Goodyear makes an LT215/75R15-D rated for 5.5" wheel. 27.8" tall.

I would probably be ok staying with the 205 load range D. We usually aren't loaded heavy and most of our camping trips are within an couple of hour drive.

I was doing to go to 225s from my 205s but the wheel wells looked very close.

Though I would have like to have measure the width and hieght of the two tire mounted and inflated on a a rim, I could not find any place to do that. It seemed a bit odd to crawl in the snow at the local RV dealer.

However if you can do that, you can determine if you have enough room in your wheel wells.

Instead, I had to settle for a set of "D" rated 205s. They are inflated to 65 lbs.

The tires I replaced were the 7 year old "C" rated 205 tires installed at the factory. I had put 15,000 miles on them plus whatever the previous owner added.

We will give these new ones a good road test when we go to Arizona next month.

I figure I will call Lionshead on Monday and ask them if they can verify the rim width before I pull one off and take it to the tire shop. The 205's just look small up under there
