Now though there making travel trailers with almost as much storage as the fifth wheels. Our 34ft Terry had oodles of storage and we had a small 7 cubic foot freezer inside out of the way.
Excellent point. With our 24' TT, we were cramped for storage, but when we graduated to the 28' TT, storage capacity was almost doubled. We've had the TT for almost a year and a half, and still have not used up all the storage available (exterior or interior). Even when our two daughter stay with us, there are still some cabinets that aren't used. - rbpruExplorer IISize matters, and the "right" size is decided by the user. Our 26 foot TT is perfect for us but if we had to haul the grandkids maybe not.
We looked at a fiver but I didn't want to give up the truck bed nor did I want a bigger truck for day to day use.
In our case smaller was the right size.
Congrats on the new toy, enjoy. - jaycocreekExplorer IIYa, when we had the big fifth wheel we had a lance pickup camper to for camping. Had to put 2x4s down to have it ride above the rails. Never was happy with that set up for the truck camper.

Our problem with fifth wheels has always been transporting 100 lb propane tanks for long or permanent stays. There just isn't enough room between the pickup bed and fifth wheel for anything to tall making the bed fill up fast.
Best of luck to the opp and new fifth wheel! - jaycocreekExplorer IIYa, when we had the big fifth wheel we had a lance pickup camper to for camping. Had to put 2x4s down to have it ride above the rails. Never was happy with that set up for the truck camper.

Good luck in your ventures.I just went from a 35 Ft Jayco fifth wheel to my current travel trailer..The fifth wheel was just to long to get into the places I go the most and I couldn't take as much stuff in the truck, in the fifth wheel.
The fifth wheel was more for rv/mobile home parks when we were full-timing where the trailer is better suited boon docking.
We stayed with a TT for similar reasons. We bought a used 3/4 ton diesel truck, so when we bought a bigger RV, we could have gone either TT or fifth wheel. But we store the RV at a storage lot near our fav camping areas during the summer camping season, so we take food, clothes, etc from home, then pick up the TT and go to the campground, then put it in the storage lot after. Like you, we needed the full bed of the truck for storage, so went with a TT. I also need the bed of the truck when at home, so wasn't willing to have a fifth wheel hitch in the way.
I put a back up camera on the truck, so that made hooking up the TT pretty quick and easy. - dbblsExplorerCongratulations on your 5er. We like out big country and I invite you to join the Heartland Owners Club and the forum. Lots of good information there.
- Doug33ExplorerDefinitely some advantages to a 5er, but I still have a TV that can't accommodate one, so I bought a new TT last year that I love.

Have you practiced backing? I understand it's totally different than backing a tt.
