For trailer usage the best 15 inch tire is a Goodyear Cargo G26:
size : 225 /70 R 15 C ( commercial )
here is why :
27.4" diameter X 9 " section width
Tire weight is 33 # due to extra cords and rubber .
Made in France or Germany .
rated 2470 # at 65 psi on the tougher LT scale.
Speed rated 106 mph .
For comparison :
Load range C Goodyear Marathon Radial ST
size : 225 /75 R 15 D
28.3" diameter X 8.8 " section width
Tire weight is 31 # due to less cords and rubber .
Made in China.
rated 2540 # at 65 psi on the weaker ST scale.
Speed rated 65 mph .
Load range D
Sharp readers will note that the Goodyear company has to provide a 33 # LT tire to get a 2470 # weight rating .
But GY can get by with a 31 # ST tire and placard it at 2540 # on the weak /cheap ST scale .
It is in your best interest to measure the clearance you have now .
The Cargo G26 fits everywhere a 225/75R15 fits .
I have not found any tire that is more substantial than this G26 that fits a 15 inch wheel .
The maxxis and other ST tires are all made in asia .
They are made to meet a lower price than the equivalent sized LT tire .
