Got the Bigfoot!

I drove from Houston to Maryland to look at a 2500 9.4ft Bigfoot. 2008 model that the owner said he bought, brought home, and never used. I guess I believe him. It looks pretty good. I bought it. Of course I think I paid dearly for it. It's pretty well loaded. I installed the Torklift tiedowns and the owner threw in a set of Fast Guns. I got it loaded and spent the 1st night in a KOA. Then on to Smokey Mtn Nat Park for one night. Then 12 hours on the road for one night in Louisiana before getting home mid day today. No issues so far.
The 2016 Ram 3500 Cummins SRW handled it well. Of course it weighs more than I thought. Bigfoot said 2300 dry and 2800 as built. I'd have to look at my scale receipts again but I think I'm pushing 3500 with me and a full tank of water, which adds up about right. The Ram has 4018# payload so I'm good, but not as good as I hoped.
Back in the TC world after a 30 year absence!
Now to take a nap and maybe unload it tomorrow.

    Cypress actually.
We don't see too many TC's around here. I have a Northstar 8.5 Arrow.
    Where do you live?

We're like a lot of folks...say we live in Houston, but not really. We grew up in Houston, but didn't want the kids to. We moved to Liberty about 1994. Small town living...love it. If I didn't work in a Deer Park refinery (Shell), Cypress, Rose Hill, etc. would be a great choice. But, the cross town commute would kill me.
You are correct, we probably have the only cabovers in the area. lol

  • Congratulations on the Bigfoot and returning to the TC world! Many enjoyable camping/fishing trips in your future! Post some pics after your nap!

  • Congratulations, I looked really hard at BF's before I pulled the trigger on a NL. I have a rack the width of my bumper that I load up with milk crates and tubs of fire wood and never had air flow issue's. Enjoy!
  • Speaking of gens. I plan to put a receiver on the front of the Ram and carry gens and fuel on a cargo carrier in a box.
Has anyone had any truck cooling issues doing this?
  • I'm good. Aired them to 80 before I left.
Yeah, we've stayed in commercial CG's outside GSMNP the last 2 years. Been scouting spots for the Montana 5th inside the park and it's slim pickings. Thus the Bigfoot. I've got 2 Honda 2000 gens. Hopefully just need one for the 11,000BTU A/C. And hopefully the next visit will be as early in the spring as possible. I want at the trout first!
Got a spot in Smokemont CG Tuesday night and thought I was lucky. Park Ranger said it's usually open during the week, but weekends fill up.
  • Congrats, but pictures or it didn't happen. :) Don't forget to air up the tires if you haven't already.

Also, a common mistake but there is no e in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. ;)
