- JumboJetExplorerFunny thing to me - most of the National Parks and Corp of Engineer parks are all fee based. I don't know if the fees pay all the costs (and doubt that it would), but still, I have paid for my lifetime NP pass and someone is under the obligation to allow me to use it. :) But, we all know how that works.
- 67avionExplorer IIFrankly, I'm curious to see the difference between the Federal government being open and being closed in terms of vacation travel and camping. I'm with Sleepy on this: "go do what you can...
Life goes on... you should too.
See you on the road... we are out of here..
less crowds". - DesertboyExplorer

I was wondering how this would effect the US parks.
IN my warped mind I was thinking if the US government is shut down I should go to a park and claim it as mine as it has been abandoned (yah I need help) :-)
Im with Mike, Lets Go Stake a Claim Lol, I guess I don't Understand, If their are no workers there then who's to stop people from Going where you want, And if they are shut down then all Laws Rules and regulation should be Null and void. - sky_freeExplorerWe are at Lake Powell NRA today. The gates are automated fee stations at Bullfrog, and there are lots of visitors. We were planning on swinging by the Grand Canyon on Friday so hopefully that will be open.

Government shut down killing our vacation!!!!
Hmmm, I have been full time RV'ing for 6 years now and have 'never' stayed in a federal/state CG. So them shutting them down certainly doesn't have any affect on my RV'ing!
P.S. ~There IS life out there offering camping besides gov parks. :W:W - WyoTravelerExplorerMost Natl parks you can exit at night when they are closed. Just drive over into the other lane and enter. Great! nobody there to monitor. You can camp anywhere. :B

Our US National Parks attract visitors from around the world.
If you think that you've got problems. . .
Arches and Canyonlands were full of them yesterday. One of the tour operators was talking to the Rangers trying to figure out what to do with their bus full of people.....
One of the Rangers we talked to made that very point, a "life time" trip for someone from someplace "far far away" gets wrecked. - n7bsnExplorer

According to what we hear, the parks will be closed. We're in Moab, Utah and planned on going to Canyonlands today. We'll give it a try.....don't need a ranger or visitor center. However, they may have closed the gate. :( I feel for the locals here!!!!! If the 1000s of people that are here leave, the town itself will suffer.....NOT the government!
We were there yesterday (and Arches, long day). It will be closed at the gate.
You could go to Dead Horse State Park (we will also, it will be crowded). Then into town for the Museum.
Good luck, were are you staying? We are at Archview - CptnBGExplorerThe local news media is saying the Blue Ridge Parkway will be open for travel, just no government facilities open. I would assume this would apply to the Skyline Drive as well.
