Gray Water Tank

It might not be legal to dump the dishwater in the bushes (I'd ask first in any organized campground).

But at least in Ohio many of the state parks I visited have grey water basins located around the CG just for this purpose. (For use by the tent campers.)

First scrape all the garbage off the dishes into your trash can.
Then, put a plastic dish pan in the sink and wash the dishes in it.
Then take the pan outside, and find a spot that looks like it could use some water and dump it.
It is illegal in most states, but so isn't exceeding the speed limit.Here and there some camp grounds that even encourage it.jack L

It IS illegal in CG's AND IT STINKS! Yup, guess you don't care about the laws and other RV'ers. :(

IMHO real bad advice to be given to a new RV'er.

I would not put anything extra in the BW tank, according to the specs that is only a 9 gal. tank. That would create a new set of problems.

Thanks again for all of the great advice. I will check the size of the tank with a gallon milk jug. I also will make some different arragnements for washing dishes. Lol. I do like the idea of washing dishes in a tub and running it down into the black water tank. Also I just purchased a portable tank (25 gallon with wheels and a tow bar). Waiting on it to arrive. Things I should have thought about before the purchase. Although I am limited to trailer size due to the tow vehicle being a Toyota mini van.

15 gallons is small. You may have to buy one of those blue totes so you can drain the water daily and dispose of it.

How big is your black tank? I wash dishes in a small dishpan and then dump the water into the toilet. (Be careful, though...in an earlier RV I once accidentally dumped a spoon in there!)

Don't try this in bear country... Or varmint! When camping in wildlife areas this encourages the varmints to come sniffing around for food. When backpacking one learns quickly to wash dishes well away from camp! Nothing like waking up to a raccoon scratching the bushes behind the tent!

This thread is interesting in the fact that many of the responders say how fast they run through their tanks, while in other threads some people claim that their tanks (especially BW) lasts weeks. I was always amazed at those people because based on my rate of usage I have to wonder how they use their rigs. So this is where all the other folk hang out. :)

In my case we have 37 gal. BW and GW tanks and can get through a 2 night camping trip without dumping grey. As for BW ... that lasts about 5 days before it is full. That includes doing the dishes for 3 regular meals and taking quick showers. There are two of us.

To the OP's question - looks strange for his 15 gallon tank. I would not suspect the sensors on a new tank, besides he confirmed that the tank is full since he physically checks it is so. I used to have a Jayco HTT and it had 20 gal tanks which were just too small. Had to make sure that we started dumping grey into the black tank just to make sure we can get through a 2 night trip. So with a 15 gallon tank, I am not too surprised. Perhaps some water could be saved doing the dishes but even that sounds optimized. Some folk use paper plates to cut down on the dishes and that could be an option. In summary, his problem sounds like a combination of small tank with a need for more optimization on water usage. Just my 2 cents

I have a 30 gallon in mine, and I have to dump it every day. Water runs fast.
