Growth of Midsize Pickup Trucks

Noticed the chart below from Pickup Trucks.com, that the Midsize segment continues to expand, and that includes older models, not just the newly introduced "twins" vehicles?
Seeing fuel prices are low why are people buying more Midsize Pickups? This have nothing to do with Global 1 Tonners, but the U.S. markets Midsize Pickup Truck market

what I've found interesting over the years is two statements, both correct.

The ford Fseries is the largest selling pickup brand in the U.S. (302,000)
GM sells more pickups than does ford.( 306,000) (350,000 if you add in colorado and canyon, without any ford rangers available anymore)

And GM doesn't seem to do much/any advertising that they outsell ford. At least that I'm aware of.

Just that GM has two brands, Chevrolet and GMC, and 2 or 4 product lines depending on how you want to slice and dice it

and it looks like the ridgline is pretty much gone. wonder if honda even offers it anymore.

Why does Ford offer many different sizes of SUV's? Why does Ford offer the Expedition, Explorer, Edge, and Escape? Why does Chevy offer the Suburban, Traverse, and Equinox? Maybe, just maybe, sometimes people like to have a choice in the size of vehicle they buy.

You forgot to mention Jeep, who makes NOTHING BUT SUVs....

    Wrangler 2 door
    Wrangler 4 door
Renegade (new as of a month ago)
    Cherokee
    Grand Cherokee
SRT8 Grand Cherokee (this is the GO FAST version)
    Patriot
    Compass
  • The Texas two step :R

GM is really having a good year. Either that or a bad 2014 :W

But hey, I'm just some guy in Texas, so what do I know?

I think choice and needs are factors
