Half Ton MPG Actual vs Advertised Test

Dang, the Raptor and Rebel highway mileage is about the same as my combined mileage.

Smells fishy at Ram.

If you watch the video, they say the Ram is basically new with only a couple hundred miles on it, where the other trucks have a few thousand. They also mention that Ram does not have the EPA do a different MPG estimate for the Rebel version of the Ram 1500 4x4. The Rebel is an inch higher, has the knobby tires, and IIRC, no air dam in the front. Those will all lower highway mpg, so they should. They mention that for those types of reasons, Chevy has the EPA do a different mpg number for the Trailboss version of the Silverado. Lastly, E-Torque will have little to no benefit at highway speeds.

If true that is not the consumers problem. This is a Ram problem. What is the point of the EPA estimates if they are not required to reflect the vehicle the sticker is attached to.

Hopefully once the break-in tune expires the mpg will be more accurately reflected in their tests.

Do people actually buy trucks based on their mileage rating? I think most purchases are based on price, brand, looks etc. They’re trucks, they all suck, literally.

I agree. I couldn't care less what the MPG of a truck is. I need a truck to work hard day in and day out and not break down. I always buy heavy duty trucks which have no EPA estimates anyway so I tend to forget that even exists.

:h yet how many posts and treads about people wanting better fuel economy over power of the new 3/4+ ton diesels.

I am sure those uninterested in the inaccurate mpg would be up in arms if the dealer tacked on a 20% convenience fee in the total price after they negotiated the price.

I wonder if you will ever recoupe the money of the off road package. :B

Yes because you get twice the resale on the backend. :B

Why they included the Raptor in this mix makes no sense, as it is not a conventional truck. Its towing capacity is probably the lowest. While its ground clearance and suspension capabilities off road are much greater.
Having had a Raptor, I can say fuel economy is not a big consideration when buying one.
