Not true at all I have a double cab, TRD, 4x4 the base model 5.7 double cab starts at just over 30k for a 4x4.

That is true about the regular cab according to the site. I do know you use to be able to get the 5.7 in a regular cab. They just started offering the v6 in the regular cab in the last year or 2.

IMO many RV folks forget a 1500 LDT does other duties out here in the real world other than pulling a fixed hitch weight RV around. GM/Dodge and Ford hasn't.

Don't want to assume but if you're referring to your Ford & you're unhappy with it's towing performance consider going to 4.30 gearing. Mine had 3.73s, I went to 4.30s and the seat-of-the-pants performance is very noticeable with only a very small drop in overall economy.

If you were talking 1/2ton ratings exclusively then forget I said anything LOL

High tow ratings sell trucks. Just ask Ford with their unrealistic 11K+ ratings. No reason GM shouldn't jump on the bandwagon.

This is flat out not true. I just traded a Grade Tundra Double Cab with a 5.7L You can buy any grade Tundra with any engine. The regular cab is only available with a long bed and the Crew Max only comes with a short bed, but any other combos are available.

Not even remotely close to being true. I bought a 2010 doublecab SR5 4WD with the 5.7 for $30,500 in 2010. I looked at the worktruck edition regular cab with the 5.7 for something like $26K, but the wife overruled me and we got the doublecab instead.

Final sales numbers for 2011 had GM ahead by a few thousand and I will post the link after I access it again. Too darn much work getting all 15 years as I did it once and had posted them. The numbers you posted were preliminary and before the final tally which occurs in Feb or Mar. It varies year to year. Mark V's post about 15 years of truck sales leader by manufacturer is correct.

Likely not stability, stopping! This is not stopping on the flat, but stopping at the bottom of a long grade. Equipped with an exhaust brake a diesel has far more retardation than a gas engine. I don't need to touch my service brakes going down a 6% to 7% grade holding back 19,000# with just the exhaust brake.

Coming home last Sunday down the west side of Santiam Pass, watched many in front of me showing brake lights, while I just listened to the rumble of my Pacbrake!

Sorry, but the 6.2L has a built in transmission brake when using the tow haul mode, plus a factory trailer brake system. I have NO problem maintaining speed without riding the brakes on a 5 mile 7% drop while towing 10K.
