Hallmark Pop-up Truck Campers

Hello everyone,
I have been researching Truck Campers and I have a question about the Hallmark Cuchara XL 9.5' camper. I would like to go off road and figure they would be a good fit with the low profile in the woods and hills. I am not an Extreme off roader just want to explore and dry camp, fishing included. They are rated for four seasons, but i don't think i would want to test 20 below in the Camper. Good or bad what do you thing.
Thank you for your inputs.

  • We love our Cuchara and always boon dock camp but limit off road to forest service roads etc mostly because of the truck we own now. Our first Cuchara was on my F350 reg cab 4x4 with big mud tires and I took it many places that I would never try with the Dodge because of the wheel base. The Cuchara’s side wall is shorter than the Outfitter, which was a big deal to us because I have 9 foot garage doors and the Outfitter would not clear that on my truck.
I’ve never owned an Outfitter but a lot of people here do and like them. I’m on my second Hallmark and would definitely purchase another one based on quality and customer service.
  • Thank You For the Replies. Yes i am planning to get the Ford F-350 XLC CC 8'bed 4X off Road. Sorry I left that out of the first post. I will check out the Outfitter Apex and Four Wheel to make sure. My plan is make summer and fall camping at a week or two at a time, maybe a month out, with up to two people at the most. Starting in the Black Hills in SD into Wyomings BH Mountains. Wyoming could take the whole summer and fall by its self. Eventually all of the Western States. May take a few years just depends on how mush food, water I use. Gas will come into play on how far out i get. This is a few years out but that is why i am planning now for retirement.
I have also read that Yellowstone NP, you should have a hard sided camper. So might have to check on that.

  • Weather you get a Hallmark or Outfitter,, get a F350 or 3500 truck so you do not have to add suspension bandages. Hallmark and Outfitter both now have north south beds. If you want to winter camp the heated basement in the Outfitter Apex 9.5 would make sense.
  • You will find the Outfitter pop-up to be the more popular pop-up brand in this forum.

Before choosing your camper, perhaps you should declare your "givens" such as what specific truck and bed size will you use, where you are going to use the camper and in what weather, how many nights in your average trip, how many people in your party, and how much money are you willing to spend.

    Regards.
