Hauling an extra propane tank

I want to take an extra propane tank when I hit the road. I have seen pictures of tanks being hauled on trailer receiver, cargo holders. These are about 60" X 20" with 6" tall side rails.

Do you think this is a safe way to haul a tank. Mine would be rear mounted. The tank would be in a wooden box secured to the platform.

Would anyone temporarily haul a tank inside the camper?

Obviously, in a bad rear end crash, there could be a problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Michael

When you say camper I am assuming TC i.e. truck camper. Inside not a good idea and like posted on the rear would also be dangerous.

There are so many places now that fill tanks probably no need for the extra tank.

Why not inside the camper? Isn't that essentially where the tank(s) are on most TCs?
How about strap it to the roof? Then it's completely out of the way until u need it. On its side wouldn't be taller than the air conditioner.

The tanks are in a separate vented compartment exterior to the inside. a build up of propane inside and one spark could make a camper into a huge bomb. I know there are RVers that do carry them inside but not recommended.

If you are referring to camper as TT i.e travel trailer I mounted a bracket in my pick up bed and carried the extra tank. The only problem I ever had was driving into an airport parking lot. It caused the security guards to panic.

  • No to it being on the back, a rear end collision would be catastrophic.
    JMHO.
