hay wagon

While sitting here on the porch watching my neighbor across the road hauling hay, It occurred to me that if my tt had a steerable front axle like the hay wagon, or the truckers pulling tandem it would eliminate any tongue weight.Has this ever been tried on rv trailers?

  • I know that on here they are against pulling doubles but we used to pull 5 or 6 hay wagons at a time.

    Not on the interstate though.
  • I grew up on a small farm, and occasionally pulled a 4-wheel grain cart with a tractor. As mentioned, you could only use pull-thru sites, because you would never back it up.
  • Does your neighbor pull that wagon with a horse? Those hay wagons are early 19th century. Today they use stack wagons. Frame built just like your TT. Tandem axle and 15% of the weight goes on the tractor.
  • It is called a Hitch Buddy and the company that used to make them is out of business. I ran across the thread last year while looking at Heartland Products with a friend of mine!
  • yes they make a dolly looking thing that goes under a fifth wheel and hooks to the bumper hitch. good luck backing up.
