Head to head oil burners comparison
I found this article very interesting.
These engines are so different but yet again so similar.
The most striking for me is:
Dis-similar:
One is a 60 degree; one is a 90 degree.
One is a single VGT turbo; one is a modulated two stage turbo.
One is a V8; one is a V6.
One has 5 shots / combustion; one has 8 shots / combustion.
One is a big bore small stroke; one is a small bore big stroke.
One does not use a Bosch fuel system. :E
Simular:
Both CGI blocks.
Both 4 valve/ cylinder.
Both 29,000 psi common rail.
What I find most strange is that Cummins for the most part is and always has been a small bore big stroke engine company. But not on this engine!! They went the other way around? :h
Where as the "Itallion" engine company DID go this route!! :h
WHAT THE...........................????????????
Yes, yes, yes I know, I know. Most all of Cummins engines are an I design and this one isn't. But still they could have made a big stroke small bore much like the Ecodiesel did. Wonder why? Did they want a more car "like" performance engine for their half ton market?
Cool times and strange times we have going on!! :)
