Headlights.. Daytime

My previous 2002 Ford F-250 had a feature that anytime the vehicle was on, the headlights were on..(Truck came from Canada).. My newer 2006 F-250 does not have this feature.. Does anyone know of an aftermarket kit or modification that will make them come on whenever the ignition is on??

  • As new as it is, I bet there is an option to turn it on using a Ford scan tool.
  • I believe there is a KIT from Ford... a relay and wiring.. so a plug in.

like you said.. required for Canada... so was available.
  • I wouldn`t worry about it. there is no need for DRL`s. The U.S. decided years ago after extensive testing and reports they didn`t help with accidents. I can see oncoming cars just fine with or without DRL`s. Somehow Canada decided (probably with GM`s input) that they were necessary. GM tried years ago to get the U.S. to buy into it, but said no go. I for one am glad that was never approved.

But if you must have it, they can be programmed by the dealer!

Personally, I think it's stupid and a waste of energy to power lights in daylight. If my truck had daylight on headlights I would consider it conserving energy and had it disabled. I don't want my fuel to be used to power my alternator to burn unnecessary lights. If anyone can't see a RV size vehicle, or any vehicle, without it being lit up in daylight they shouldn't be driving. It's another government regulation run amok.. IMO.... They need to produce some regulation to condone their existence, no matter how unrealistic. :D

    lol wut
  • An interesting issue. For some reason Fiat has programmed the computer in my RAM 1500 to hide the DRL option unless the dealership sets the operating country to Canada.

Before Fiat took over the option was available. For example, my 2011 RAM Charger had the option available in the menu without dealer intervention. Both Ram using the uConnect 8.4 system.
  • Disagree 100%. Daylight Running Lights are standard on all vehicles sold in Canada(and many european countries) since 1989. It is an excellent safety feature and burns unmeasurably little fuel. In DRL mode only headlights operate and operate in half brightness to prolong life of bulbs. Aftermarket DRL modules are available to retrofit vehicles that don't have them. I believe most GM vehicles sold in US have DRL as well.
  • Except :

Ya I know - science - blah blah blah.

Check in the menus - I'll bet there is a way to enable them. Dealer would know.

Do you have an automatic mode on your headlight switch for lights to come on at night? If so, cover the sensor on the dash with some electrical tape.
