So why is it that aftermarket builders can build a bullet proof 6.0 and Ford could not. Maybe they should hire mechanics instead of engineers? Chris
More brand bigotry at play... And we all know Ford didn't build the 7.3, 6.0 and 6.4 PSD's. Except when the bashers want to bash like MeAgain.- john_betExplorer II

Ford and Cummins were working together in the Cummins MEP(mid engine plant, 5.9 production at the time) till something went wrong and Ford was asked to leave.john&bet wrote:

WOW! Nothing to say!!!! I'm shocked! :B - larry_barnhartExplorerI guess to play with you guys I will ask this. Why didn't Chrysler make a diesel engine for their trucks? I really don't care but I wanted to play.
chevman - coolbreeze01ExplorerDoesn't matter. Some engines are good and some aren't. You decide.......

Nope it was Navistar's errors. Ford engineers are smarter than that and they proved it in court and won. Ford then built it's own 6.7L Powerstroke which has been solid.
So you are saying that Ford had no input or say about Navistars build of the 2003-2007 engines and the resulting fiasco? If Ford engineers were so smart why did it take 5 years for the new engine? Just asking.
Edited to ask: Some time ago I think I read that Ford sued Navistar because they stopped paying Ford for warranty claims. I also read that with reservations, Navistar built to specifications insisted upon by Ford. Can anyone confirm? I am unable to find anything to confirm that.
Ford decided internally to divorce Navistar and manufacture their own diesel engine in 2007. Ford also released their 6.7 PSD in 2010 as a 2011 model.
The 6.0 PSD was based on the Navistar VT366 engine that was basically designed for light medium duty trucks and school buses. Minor hardware changes to meet a different emissions category and software to produce more power to compete with the new Duramax at that time.- Charlie_D_Explorer
