I love internal combustion engines, and everything about them. And the infrastructure that we have to support them in this country is amazing. I don't plan to ever switch. I hate being forced to pay for others solar stuff. If they love it so much, they should pay for it themselves.
Think of the infrastructure required to handle the waste of mountains of spent batteries. And to keep the battery market supplied. Think of the lines of cars, packed parking trying to charge up along the interstates. Think of the nuclear waste problem. There is no free lunch once you consume it.
If you buy an EV please put on deer whistles at least you will get an earlier warning to be able to hopefully stop on time.
Why are you speaking as if this is Tomorrows Technology? it's already here. The INFRASTRUCTURE is Slowly, slowly slowly being developed here. But it's already 5-7 yrs ahead in Europe.
Nuclear waste? What about the BP oil spill and countless other spills that have occurred. How many Billions did the Clean ups, repairs, law suites and damages cost? Sad that you left that out. Nuclear waste and "Batteries" don't even come close. What do you think happens to depleted batteries? What happens to old PC's. These products go to special Businesses that Disassemble them and break them down to where they pose minimal threat to the environment.
The important thing to understand is the oil is a Finite resource and one day (not in my lifetime or yours) will also be depleted. Hence it behooves us to find another energy source(s). But like everything else it happens in baby steps. When we get close to optimization you'll be long gone, and me too. So yeah, you can keep your ICE with out fear. You'll still be fine here in the US. But if you plan on travelling to Europe, well they'll be outlawed by 2030. AND well, yeah my son and future generations plan on seeing the REST of the world. It's not about YOU or me, it's about our children.
I can understand your thinking. It just my gut feelings won't change. I don't like the ramifications caused by fast vehicles in general. An example is the moment you look over and find it clear to change lanes now you hit a Tesla that was not there the moment you looked.
It other things too that I won't go into.
