Help getting/installing rear sway bar

Took this afternoon to install my Big Wig, Hellwig rear stabilizer bar on my 2006 Dodge, 2500 Diesel.

Unfortunately, nothing fits!

The box says it is for a 03008 5.9L truck


The small parts box within the main box says the same thing:


But the saddles to go over the axle do not fit. One leg is supposed to go over the center section casting and the other on the axle. But it will only go over the cast center section. The other leg hangs in free air




I could modify this saddle bracket by cutting one side to fit the center section so the other leg would contact the axle tube, but it gets worse.

The "U-Plate" hole spacing does not match the saddle bracket or the U-Bolt:


It will be interesting to see how quickly this gets resolved. Sure hope I don't have to send the whole thing back!

With some trucks the exhaust pipe makes installing a anti-sway bar more difficult. Call Hellwig and see what is involved for your truck.

In general the rear is a simple installation. The truck does not even need to be jacked up to mount one. All you need is a couple wrenches and a torque wrench.

Since you're on Fox Is, and I'm near Tacoma, if you want to come off the island and come get it, you can have my old stock rear sway bar. I recently upgraded to a Roadmaster. Assuming the axle has the mount points on it, all the brackets and bushings are there, all you should need is the sway bar end links and a couple bolts. I'll know more if you come over and I look at your truck.

If the mount points are on the axle, it's an easy install. Do some google'ing for pictures of axles that came with and without swaybars and you'll know.

If you don't have a rear sway bar at all, it will make a huge difference.

It sounds like you are the same level mechanic as I am. I installed the Hellwig Big Wig myself without any problems. I found that removing the spare tire was a big help and also the hardest part of the job. A simple internet search will find you the current lowest prices for the anti sway bar.

Order a BigWig with the end-link kit (you'll need it, since your current vehicle does not have them) and it's about 1 hour of time, plus about 10 bolts to tighten down for installation..
