First of all, I would stop using the toilet until you get it fixed and cleaned out. If you do not have some sort of manual for the toilet, I would call Customer Service either at Thetford or the place you bought the trailer from. Especially if this is a new trailer.
If you are in a campground or an RV park, I would use their facilities until you get yours fixed. Then make sure you read about how to use an RV toilet and use a good RV toilet paper and chemical and lots of water when you do use the toilet and make sure the family does not put anything else down there except what they excrete from their little tushes. After you get it fixed you may want to clean the black tank thoroughly.
