I know there are mobile RV repairman that you might be able to call and have them look at your toilet and hopefully solve your problem. Since you are new to this, it may cost you a little, but save you a lot of aggravation and future problems. I would think there should be a couple around Las Cruces. Or take some pictures and stop in an RV place and see if they can help.
