Help with my wheel hub please

Coachman Freedom Express 292BHDS.

Here's a good wheel -

What it looks like with the outer cap removed -

And the outer cap itself -

Here's my problem wheel -

I need help figuring out what parts I'm missing and where best to get them (ideally within Canada please for the sake of exchange rate and shipping....unless significantly cheaper from the U.S.

My RV dealer wants $19.95 for the plastic cap alone which I estimate is about 665% more than it should be haha!

I know I need the dust boot, but I also appear to be missing a hub "collar" of sorts that surrounds the hub nut and which the boot fits into.
  • Remove the wheel, it will make the job a lot easier.

I will second another post, you have a bearing that has blown, that is the reason the cap is gone.

You will need to remove the wheel anyways to remove the hub, inspect, clean and most likely replace the bearings.

Looks to me like the castle nut, washer have rust on them.. That is a sign that moisture has been present.
  • Yes, your pic looks like some thing is wrong, but might just be the angle you took pic at. Because if your bearing was that far out you would know about with in 100 miles IMO.

The spindle doesn't appear to be centered in the hub (brake drum), and if that's truly the case, then it needs bearings too, because something has come loose.

I'd start by jacking up that side of trailer so the affected wheel/tire is off the ground. Grab the tire with one hand on each side and see if it wobbles back and forth.

It honestly looks like there's a problem other than just a missing dust cap and rubber cover.

This was my thought too. Pictures can be deceiving, but the nut appears, not to be centered.

Agree with raising to check wobble.

  • Thanks for the subsequent replies while I was typing my response. I agree that the nut looks a bit off center. I had new bearings installed last fall but that doesn't mean it couldn't have failed.
  • Thanks. Good link. I'll try to determine if they're Dexter or not.

Any idea how that hub ring is secured? Press fit?

Still need a new outer hub cap too. I really don't want to pay $19.95

Any more leads and advice are appreciated.

  • The axle should be marked, normally on right end as to make, model and weight rating.
Yes, I also think it is Dexter.
These people should have what you need.

  • That's my first time posting photos from my iPad. They look great to me (on my iPad) but I apologize if they're absolutely massive when viewing from a desktop/laptop or any other device
