Back in the Mid-60's, we purchased land on Norfork Lake in Arkansas. Our first big camping trip was in a 1/2 ton Dodge Pickup with side boards and a tarp and our 2 ton Dodge truck filled with hay and a tarp over the side boards. 3 of us slept on the ground while my sisters and parents slept in the trucks.
When I married, the wife and I purchased a tent and tent camped from 1972 until 1997 with few exceptions - in 1975 I borrowed a truck camper from a friend for a weekend trip to Table Rock Lake. I carried that big TC on my 1973 1/2 ton Dodge Adventurer SE. The TC had gas lights, etc. It was a rainy weekend and the TC was greatly appreciated over a tent. Another exception was that I borrowed a tent trailer from my cousin for a trip to Florida. My parents had upgraded to a travel trailer and I borrowed that for a trip to Florida also.
In 1999 I purchased a 5th wheel trailer. Traded for a larger 5th wheel in 2000. Traded that for a bunk house 5th wheel in 2003 which I sold in 2013.
In 2005 we purchased a 1985 Lance 200 TC to see if the wife and I would enjoy traveling in a TC. That was sold in 2007 and we purchased a 1999 Lance 1030 which was sold in 2010 and replaced with a Lance 1055 which was traded in 2011 for our current Lance 1050S.
After tragic circumstances with my daughter's husband, we took a long trip in the TC to Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Flaming Gorge, Dinosaur, and many points in between with my daughter and my wonderful 1 year old grandson.
THE TC WAS TOO SMALL for the 4 of us. When I got back home, I purchased a 31' Motor Home for future travels with the daughter and grandson. I still have the TC for the wife and me. The four of us just returned from an 8 day 1500 mile trip in the Motor Home and I know the $$ was well spent!
There are some things I just hope I will never have to do again - 1. Pick cotton. 2. Sleep in a tent. 3. Travel 2,000 miles in a TC with my daughter and grandson (but would do if I just had to).
