A little over 2-years and 55,000 miles on the Ecoboost. It's my daily driver and I would estimate 10,000 miles have been towing everything from snowmobile trailers to skid steers. I have the most towing miles with my boat which I would scale in around 4k lbs+-. I truly like this truck more than almost any other that I've owned including the 03' F250 V10 that I still have.
The truck tows better than another 1/2 ton I've been in and the usable power/torque that comes on at 1,500 to 2,500 rpm make it a joy to drive. There is nothing better than driving down the highway and it rarely downshifting out of 6th gear. Towing my boat, it only kicks out on two very steep hills.
Towing mileage has a range of about 9 to 14 mpg depending on speed, trailer weight, and wind resistance. An empty 16ft enclosed aluminum trailer netted me around 10 mpg over a 1,000 mile trip while I've gotten 13 mpg multiple times with my 20ft fiberglass walleye boat which is far heavier.
My empty mileage used to be very consistent. I could count on my day to day commuting (1/2 highway and 1/2 stop and go) to be between 15-17 mpg. On the highway was always 18-22 mpg depending on speed and wind. To buffer that, I have seen as low as 14.5 @ 80 mph into a 30-40 mph headwind and on the flip side, with a 5-15 mph tail wind, flat terrain and at 55-60 mph it would always run 24-26 mpg. I rarely drive less than 70 mph hence my 18-22 average.
You'll notice in the above paragraph where it says "used to". Just prior to turning 50k miles (2 months ago) I had the ecoboost shudder happen to me while making a passing maneuver on a 2-lane highway. Took it in for service and specifically told them NOT to retune the truck unless absolutely necessary. What did they do, they retuned it and installed an air deflector. This by the way did not fix anything! After a 1/2 dozen good floggings the miss/shudder completely cleared up. I suspect it was condensation in the intercooler as reported by many. Since that retune, my mileage has now dropped 2-3 mpg both in-town and on the highway. The truck also now has a terrible hesitation under specific circumstances (it's from the tune) and my sync system was all jacked up until running back through the setup process. I hope to have my original programming reinstalled however I'm not holding my breath. After being po'd about this for about 3-weeks I received a dealer review request from my recent service visit. I outlined everything and have since received two calls from the service advisor wanting to get my truck back in to take care of the so called "performance issues". It's a PITA to get my truck in and I had to take it in twice the first time just for a retune and a plastic air deflector and it sat the first time for 3-days. Needless to say overall I've been happy with the truck, less so with my ford authorized dealer!
The only other item of service was a noisy pinion bearing at about 30k miles which was replaced under warranty.
