Hitch Mount Cargo on TT??

I have a bolt mount receiver attached to the back of my TT (pictured below) and previously used it for a hitch mount bike rack. I now plan to use it with my heavier hitch mount cargo carrier (Pictured Below). Plan to stack up more weight with cooler, fire wood, etc. My TT is a 2012 rockwood and the rear bumper is welded to the frame.

Does anyone use this type of set up?
Should I be concerned with support?
Do I "need" to the get a receiver that welds to the bumper?
Do I "need" to have the bumper reinforced?

Thanks

  • Don't do it...the bumper is not designed to hold any weight. You need to weld a receiver to the frame rails. The issue is not the weight it's the bouncing that happens at the back of the TT as it goes down the road.

See my build thread on adding rear storage.
  • You Should be fine I pulled my boat behind a "81 Prowler TT" for years on one just like that 18' Nitro bass boat. Until Someone told me I couldnt that it was to much weight I welded a cross peice on after that and then sold the camper to a guy from work that did the same thing and I saw the camper last summer pull in the campground all fixed up and sparkley pulling a boat on the hitch I put on. That had been pulling boats for over 10 years. That being said be smart if it starts to bend add some bracing and weld it to the frame.
