hitch receiver

New to the forum. Looks like a lot of good info for a novice RVer.
Facts: New TT Rockwood Ultralight
New Chevy Silverado 2500HD
Question: The truck has a 2.5in receiver with a removable
2in reducer. The fit of the reducer in the 2.5in receiver has some slop and seems to contribute to movement of the trailer when towing.
I want to replace the EZ lift 2in shank with a 2.5in shank but cannot locate one. Do I need a complete new hitch which will be 2.5in or just replace the 2in shank. Many thanks, Mark

  • Replace the shank. I just had to deal with this on my F-250. With the reducer I kept bending hitch pins after only one short trip. I have the eaz-lift weight distribution as well and got Curt's larger 2.5 inch shank. Just measure yours and get one that is comparable in size.

    I might try this one
  • I opted to replace all my ball mounts with 2.5" units. Means very few people will ask to borrow them. The only thing I have to use the reducer sleeve for is the stinger for my Hensley.

One thing I have noticed with the 2.5" inserts is they all seem to want to run short in the receiver. Both the Curt pintle hook and the weigh safe adjustable mount do not have much material behind the pin hole. I finally found one that uses the entire receiver and its a Reese Titan.
  • No problem getting just the shank, here is just one: shank

I recommend that you do away with the adapter, there are reports of bending pins. I didn't have a bent pin, but the 2-1/2" shank reduced the play.

  • You will never get the slop out of a hitch except with a tighter sleeve or go to a 5th wheel. I have pulled hundreds fora living and all hithches had slop.
