I get the impression these 'standards' have been deliberately left soft for the OEM's. To make the pickups do what they claim to do, would require a substantial redesign of the vehicles.
There WAS a substantial design change on the 2013 3500 1 ton SRW and 1 ton DRW trucks, substantial.....
I am sure the design change, or appears to be making a 3500 a defacto 4500! At least the gvwr is in the DOT class 4 range, and really is not even in the class 3/1 ton range any more. Not that this is a bad thing mind you! As some advertising says, "this is NOT your daddy's 1 ton/35 series truck any more" reality is, it is more like the GM 3500HD or the old Ford Super Duty out of the 90's, when they had 15K gvwr's, altho they did not have the power of todays motors, nor the 6+ sp trans missions, so they did not have the gcwr per say of the older rigs.
Really, this is a wolf in sheeps clothing, just as the GM 1500HD has been a 2500 in halfton badge door stickers! Even my 05 dually is different than the fist GM 3500 I bought in 89 with a 10K gvwr!

On the Mobile Suites Forum I have mentioned the newer big 3 Duallys will do what the F450 used to do and some more.
