I really would go with the YAMAHA 2400, it would not have a strain on it. JMO

Either one should be a great fit with your air conditioner. The companion allows a second generator to be added in parallel for double the power. It's kind of keeping your options open.

Get the companion as the second generator.

Why buy the Companion first? If you need a second generator then that's when I would buy the companion unless they are the same price.

The Companion model has the 30 amp RV outlet built in. It doesn't produce any more power than the standard EU2000i. It will allow you to plug straight into that 30 amp outlet with your regular 30 amp cord, and draw 13.3 running amps, or 16.7 surge amps. You can get those through a standard 20 amp cord, too. The Companion model MSRP's at about $130 more than the Standard model. However, if you DO get a second EU2000i, the parallel CORD is cheaper than the parallel KIT with a 30 amp outlet. With what you appear to need, you could get the standard model first, and if you decide you need more power, add the Companion model at any time. Two standard 20 amp outlets vs. one 20 amp and one 30 amp.

Having the companion model allows you to slave the two 2KW Generator together and not have to provide the additional 30A connection panel as shown here.

Without syncing the two units together you only get 13.3 AC AMPS output from each generator unit.

You don't HAVE to get the Companion to connect two Honda generators together in parallel.

All you need are two generators from the same model family (i.e. two eu2000i's) and the parallel cord.

The limitation of two "normal" eu2000i models in parallel is that the maximum current you are supposed to be pulling out of a regular household plug is only 20 Amps.

The Companion model has a 30A twistlock plug that "lets" you draw the full 26.6 Amp output from the two generators in parallel. That is the ONLY difference!

All you need is a twistlock to RV plug adapter, and you can plug directly into your RV and run just about everything.

Get the Companion model.

I have the EU2000I, both the req and companion. Only reason is to run the A/C on the 5er. Depends on your A/C. I understand if you have the smaller Polar 9000 or whatever the make/model is you do not need both generators, but it is sure nice to have the power when you need it for what ever reason. Like 4x4 drive, I do not have it, but boy I sure was stupid not go get it. I will never buy another truck without it.

This is not correct.

The Companion has one 20 amp receptacle household type 3 prong and one 30 amp L5-30A receptacle that will require an adapter to plug a 30 amp RV cord.

Just keep in mind the companion model has a 30AMP 120VAC socket installed on it but will still need to have an adapter to mate with the RV30AMP plug.

The companion model generator however by itself will only produce 120VAC @ 13.3AC AMPs when run by itself. Hopefully the 13.3AMP will run your 11000BTU roof mounted air conditioner. In my case my 2KW Honda Generator that was producing 120VAC @ 13.3AC AMPS would start up my 13,500BTU roof mounted air conditioner if I turned off everything else in the trailer but the next time the air conditioner would cycle it would trip my generator breaker.

The only thing you are going to gain with the companion model by itself is a 120VAC 30AMP receptacle mounted on the front panel and only one 120VAC 20AMP receptacle. You will not get 26.6AMPS from this 30AMP Socket by itself - only when you sync the Companion model Generator with another 2KW Honda Generator. This 30AMP socket will only produce 120VAC @ 13.3AMPS when used by itself. Of course the Companion model will probably be $100 more in cost. You will still have to purchase a RV30A adapter to go from the 30A twist lock receptacle to the RV30A standard socket to fit you RV30 AMP Shore Power connector.

Also I am assuming you will get 120VAC @ 13.3A on the twist lock 30AMP socket. IT may not produce any output unless synced to a second 2KW Generator - I have never played with the Companion Model. Others on here should be able o answer this question. The question is will the 30AMP Twist Lock connector on the companion front panel be "HOT" if used by itself.

Just passing along how all of this is going to help you if you just purchase ONE EACH Companion Model 2KW Generator...

Be sure to post how the 11000BTU works with one 2KW Generator. I for one would like to have that info.

I have run a standard 8000 BTU House window air conditioner unit with my 2KW Honda Generator and it worked just fine...
