Maybe, sometimes. My understanding, not expert, is that elevation also plays a roll in what your generator can and cannot do. The higher in elevation one goes, the more power the generator loses. More power is a benefit if you do some high altitude camping. - cubbearExplorerwill the Honda 2000 start 13500 AC?
- gboppExplorerI would go with the Champion. JMO
Here's some posts on the Champion 2000. NOT the Champion 3100.
Maybe it will help with your decision. - Super_DaveExplorerEverything else considered, physical dimensions might be a deciding point.
- shum02ExplorerComparing the 2kw Honda to a 3100 Champion?? I don't get it?
Me, I'd go with the Champ. It'll run probably even a 15k btu a/c unit the 2kw Honda might run a 13.5k btu unit.
The Champ is bigger, bigger engine etc so on the same load the 2kw Honda can run the Champ should be less stressed and for that reason, make "less" noise.
Just my thoughts. I have an open frame 3kw Champ and a 1kw Honda inverter but I'd never compare the two of them unless I was just charging my batteries. - Sandia_ManExplorer IIAll generators make noise, even red or blue especially when powering heavy loads. The 3K Champion inverter you listed is obviously a better bang for the buck and with remote start, it certainly saves the hassle of getting in and out of your rig to stop and start unit.
Whatever genny you plan to use while camping amongst other campers, it is wise to utilize it as little as possible. Having a couple of batteries or more and a good quality inverter allows the use of tvs, dvd players, laptops among many other devices without requiring your genny to drone on endlessly.
In these camping scenarios we run our genny about an hour or two every other day to quickly replenish consumed amphours via our Iota converter, we do have solar as well but these heavily populated campgrounds are not always conducive for effective charging from our solar array. Boondocking allows us to benefit greatly from solar if sun is out in full force and out west where we camp that is usually the norm. - Dakota98ExplorerAlready, the noise police are all over this post. :h
In the first place, I don't feel that the "yellow" one is a knock-off. It's a quality generator with good customer support.
Yes, Honda's are quiet, BUT, how are you going to use it ? If you intend on running it between the hours of 7pm to 10am then your neighbors are probably not going to be happy with you. If you aren't. Then what's the point ?
Here's a couple of specs. on each:
Honda:
$950
59 dB(A) @ rated load 53dB(A) @ 1/4 load (at what distance?)
2000W Max.
1600W Rated
Champion:
$1079
58 dBA from 23' (at what load?)
3100 Max
2800 Rated
One thing I do hate, is there is not a "uniform standard" when measuring the db. Load, Distance, etc.
IMHO, I would go with the CHAMPION !!!! :p - BoatycallExplorer

NOTHING is as quiet as a Honda, period...... If you're one of those people who has to have the generator running **ALL** **THE** **TIME**, you better invest in the Honda.
X2
I go out of my way NOT to run a genny, to the point I've sunk more than most into batteries, charging and inverter.
That being said, - mkirschNomad IINOTHING is as quiet as a Honda, period.
You can stare at that cheap knock-off generator all you want, tilt your head to one side, and say, "It's not that loud," but you're in a state of denial.
The real question is, do you care? The cheap knock-offs are still not as loud as a contractor generator by a long shot. If you're one of those people who has to have the generator running **ALL** **THE** **TIME**, you better invest in the Honda. - 2oldmanExplorer II
