- HadEnoughExplorerNot to mention bolt cutters.
I was amazed at how easy I was able to slice through a lock with a pair of those. Barely had to push. - Kayteg1Explorer II

Guess how long it takes to cut off a locking hitch pin and remove the whole mess? Lol
On 2WD Superduty front hitch is just inches above the ground and behind generator. I have to lay down on the ground and make far reach to insert the key to unlock it.
Without lifting the truck somebody would need 4 feet long arm to reach pin with hacksaw or grinder.
Still that might be the weakest point, I agree. - jaycocreekExplorer II

Good morning all.... Any good ideas / suggestions for a way to lock a Honda to a tree or your truck? TIA
One of the perks of the little Honda's is there light..I never leave camp with my gen outside..I either put it just in the camper or the truck front floor board...
I do chain it while we are there to something but never leave it untended..My man eating Blue healer guards it during the day..(grin) - Grit_dogNavigator II^ Agree. Never said I couldn’t steal my own generator in 30seconds. Just said what I use.

Takes me about 5 seconds with my cordless saw and diamond blade to cut any cable.
Chain takes about 20 secs for whatever it is worth.
That’s what I was about to say - don’t be overconfident, a cordless grinder with a cutoff disc will nearly instantly defeat any of these.
Which sucks.
But you can at least make it not the easiest thing in sight to grab. - Grit_dogNavigator II

Anything used to "lock" a generator to a tree or anything else can be defeated in 10 seconds or less. Metabo with a diamond blade. I like the covered generator idea above, well done. Out of sight, out of mind. Once that cover comes off, its less than 10 seconds and the generator is gone. Two quick cuts.
I spend time thinking over my front hitch mount.
Honda 3000 has rubber feet hold by metric bolts.
I cut the holding frame with no space for hacksaw access, the main tube has locking pin in the receiver, while generator feet are not only having metric fasteners, but they are hidden inside the tubing with additional cover. Not saying that hanging few inches above the ground it is easy access.
So no chain, no locks (beside the hitch) yet it would take several minutes for thief-to-be to figure out how to approach the mount and he would have to have 10 MM socket for it as well.
Just like a member above screw his frame with mixed torx and square heads screws.
To top it, using generator mounts I don't have ugly frame covering generator and it is all on rubber bushings for vibration dampening.
It is not that you have to cut anything, but will take you long time to gather necessary tools if you'd like to steal the generator.Click For Full-Size Image.
