I am very interested to see what more knowledgeable people will say about the damage.
My take is that it does not look too terrible. If there is wood (as opposed to metal) framing behind that darkened plywood at the bottom you could have some more serious issues, though.
More troubling to me is the idea that maybe the previous owner was not up on maintenance AND you did not have a through inspection before buying.
