I've done that kind of repair, it's a little tricky and very time consuming.
It's probably not a repair that would be affordable to hire out.
It will take your hubby some time to repair. Your material costs should not be too bad, certainly less then writing this trailer off and buying another one.
It really comes down to time, is your husband willing to spend the time to repair.
I hate to say this, but the seller certainly knew there were issues, possibly not as bad as what it is.
